Friend of the blog Robert Keith and the Texas Brahmas Insider caught the action at the Nytex Sports Centre as there was an epic brawl during pre game warm ups between the Texas Brahmas and the Allen Americans of the Central Hockey League.
Allen was exacting revenge on Brahmas goon James Hiebert who hit the Allen Star netminder and placed him on the 14 day IR last time the two teams battled. Words were exchanged, one thing led to another, and the end result was four guys getting game misconduct penalties before the teams had had a chance to stretch. The refs were not even dressed yet, no one was on the ice but the players. Brahmas went on to stomp Allen 5-2. This rivalry is shaping up to be as epic as the old texans/wings vs dallas blackhawks games of the 1970s. In fact next time these two square off at Nytex they will be wearing vintage Blackhakws and Wings jerseys as part of a special throwback series.

Being from Detroit I might have to go and watch that game. Also a fight in pregame? Sound like something I would do.

Pre-game fights hooked me on the game at an early age.
As a 14 year old, I watched with confusion and glee from an upper bowl seat as a Salt Lake City forward broke a stick over the back of then Peoria Rivermen enforcer Tony Twsit before the opening face-off of an IHL playoff game. 20 minutes of mayhem, a goalie fight (Pat Jablonski for the Rivermen; Cujo had been called up to the Blues earlier in the season), and 8 game misconducts later, the game started to a roaring (and slightly intoxicated) Peoria crowd.
The Rivernmen would lose the following round, but Cliff Ronning, Twist, Nelsen Emerson, Kelly Chase, Pat Jablonski, and the Rivermen had a fan for life.
Glad to see this rivalry get goin early.
