Quarter Final Recaps

This weekend we had the first ever quarterfinal round of the first ever Stanley Keg Playoffs at the Nytex Centre. In the first game of the evening, the Keller Indians scalped the Silver Bullets despite the fact that the Birdman was flying high. Solid team play from the Indians combined with stellar goaltending from Ryan Kelly left the Silver Bullets looking ahead to next season.

The Stingers and Mid Air took the stage next, and form held true as the top seed closed the deal here. Another balanced game with the Stingers spreading the scoring around. Things got a little heated late in the game as Jeff Green decided to turn the game into a full contact affair. His 16 penalty minutes will no doubt have to be reviewed by the league to determine if further action against him is necessary. Dave Mulvey had an assist as it looks like his trade with the Finish I league has not yet been approved. Word on the street is coach Dan is trying to orchestrate a much larger deal to get rid of Mulvey. Mulvey was quoted after the game saying, “Get your popcorn ready, as long as they get me dat puck, I am gonna give you a show because I love me some me.” This flamboyant attitude does not jive in the Stingers locker-room, which is why Mulvey is on the block.

The Gators took care of the Angels 4-1 thanks to a hat trick by Zack “the hunter” Gunter. The other ZG brother Zack Gaydos threw one in himself to give the Gators the insurance they needed to move on to the semis. The real story of the game though was the return of Bruno, who dusted off the rust and stopped 11 of 12 shots from the Angels offense. The lone person to score was Brandon Decker who also happens to be the Angels leading scorer.

Finally we had the highly anticipated rematch with the Senators and Hurricanes. Close battle here with the Sens taking care of business 3-2. The Senators kept pressure on Hurricanes goalie Ryan Kelly all night long. But Kelly was a wall stopping 43 of an impressive 46 shots. Rush “Mexico” Rector stood strong in net for the Sens as well stopping 24 of 26. The big showdown of Kyle Saylor vs. Mac Donovan went to Donovan who had 2 goals and an assist to Saylor’s one goal. Coordinator Greg Perry got into the mix by showcasing his finely honed goon skills with 4 penalty minutes.

So sorry for the short recaps folks, feel free to elaborate in the comments section. But now its on to the Semis, as only four teams remain. The Senators will face the Tribe and the Bees will take on the Cajuns. Who will win the Keg, thoughts…….
