Scheduling Update

Ice is starting to be put in at NYTEX on the Brahmas rink today, with a temporary system. Right now the word is that we will play this Saturday.

Bronze league schedule has been pushed back exactly one week, so whatever your game time was supposed to be last week, will be the game this week.

More updates as they arrive.

Ice is going in as we speak. There is a crew out back with two 18 wheel flat beds, and a huge new mechanical type unit. Not sure what the unit does, probably simulates the north pole or some such.

Rumor has it the mid air boys spotted a sleigh and reindeer over NYTEX. A anonomous Senator swore he saw a santa like figure by the Zambonis. Now that we have ice again everyday can be like christmas..

Kudos to all involved in getting us back up and running! Several volunteers and I spent a long, cold evening at the rink last Friday night helping out in any way we could. Knute was the ramrod for the evening. When the new group arrived at 9:00pm, the ice had aready been painted it's base coat of white, faceoff circles and lines and had a thin ice cap on it. Our group wasa charged with freezing down the logos and capping them so the flooding could begin. When the caps had frozen completely, Knute attached the wand to the garden hose on steroids and the first step of flooding began. Walking back and forth from side to side starting at the far end, the object was to thinly coat the ice with a fresh layer of warm water. Each "coat" took about 30 minute to lay down. Care had to be excersized to not let the warm hose lay in one spot on the ice for any length of time as it would have melted the thin layer of ice already down. After each application with the wand we had to wait for a while for the ice to set, then it was all hands on hose for another 30 minute misting. After 6 or 7 of these, the wand was removed and the mini fire hose nozzel was attached and the real flooding began. All through the night and all the next day this process was repeated. I left to get some much needed sleep at 4:30am Saturday morning. I was told another batch of volunteers came in to help during the day.

I was truely amazed that we played our games that night! Especially since just two days earlier, the floor was bare!

Way to go!
