Next Season

Here's some info that came out of the coordinators meetings, thanks to the report of one of the coordinators:

Here's some of the info that came out of the coordinator's meeting this past weekend.

All-Star game will be Saturday, April 11th after the Brahmas game. There won't be a rookie game this season. Two all-star teams: players from the Stingers, Ice Gators, Senators, Spider Monkeys and the Silver Bullets will be one one team, and players from the Indians, Lady Stars, Arc Angels, Jaguars and Mid-air Collision will be on the other. Those who play on the all-star team have the option to purchase their jersey for $50. All goalies are welcome to play in the all-star game.

Next season, there will be 12 games and two mid-season practices. Games start on the 18th.

There will be a new playoff format at the end of next season which will be a little more competetive - it will last a couple or a few weeks and be more tournament style, meaning regular season standings would not totally eliminate the 3rd, 4th, etc seeds from contention for the Keg like it has been in the past.

These sound like positive changes to me! I have also gotten alot of support from league management that the scorekeepers will be encouraged to pay more attention - I watched them surfing ebay and MySpace and Facebook (see zmomma, Facebook is nothing but trouble!) while in the scorekeepers box during games, and while we probably won't see Pointstreak, at least the scoresheets will be more quickly and more accurately loaded into League Lineup, which will keep costs down but still give everyone a better idea of how the other teams and our own teams are doing compared to everyone else, and make it more fun for stats freaks like me to see more dimensions that just who won and lost.

^How's that for a run on sentence? Bob Sturm, eat your heart out.

Although the playoff format is going to change, I'm told the playoffs will still be played in just one weekend.

My understanding is the playoffs will start on a Thursday and finish with a Sunday specacular. My thoughts are play the All-star game prior to the Cup game. Built in audience. The 7th,8th,9th, and 10th seed will play to determine the 7th and 8 th seed, then 1vs8, 2vs7,3vs6, 4vs5, then the semi final games, then the Cup game. Looks like we will be ten teams strong.
