The Hockey Gods are Pleased

Just got this email from the League Office at NYTEX.

The Keg has been found! We caught one of the Brahmas trying to fill it with beer! (Not)

Currently, name plates are on order for the last five season champions. Assuming there is no unforeseen problems, name plates of past season champions will be in place for the championship game a the end of this season.

Thanks everybody!

The blog is about a week old and several emails have come in showing support for this undertaking. We have had several dozen unique page visits every day for the last three days, and people spend several minutes on each visit - We're flattered and amazed that this 'done blowed up' so fast.

We'll try to keep the momentum going by posting new stuff every day, it might be directly related to our league, it might be hockey in general. If you have a specific topic you'd like to see us talk about, or if you want to just submit an article or editorial, email dickiedunnblog@gmail.com and if it doesn't totally suck, we'll probably use it.

If you're anything like me, hockey is what I look forward to on the weekends, and I'm thinking about it all week. Hopefully, this will be a way we can all stay on the same page and get to know each other a little bit better.

Planned features:

  • Weekly game recaps/standings updates
  • Weekly 3 Stars (make sure you nominate teammates who you think should be recognized for on- and off-ice contributions to the team/league)
  • X's and O's talk (will be aimed at learning something new about playing the game of hockey. I'm gonna need some help here!)
  • Upcoming Matchups for the week
  • Team Profiles - Send us an email telling a little history of your team, how long you've been playing together, a team picture, a link to your team website. The idea here is that we all get to know the people we face off against each week a little better.

Filling in the blank

  • On last Thursday's Caps/Rangers game - After 3 goals for each side, Arlington Rangers won in Sudden Death Shoot-Out. Game winner was scored by Rangers #6 Michael Burr.

Week 4 Standings

League Standings after week 4 -

There are several games played at the Parks mall for which we have no result. Can anyone help with this?

Week 4 - Three Stars

What do you guys think about a "Weekly Three Stars" feature? I'll take nominations via email @ dickiedunnblog@gmail.com

Information to include in your nomination:

1)Player's name and team name
2)What they did that week to earn the nod (breakout performance, good sportsmanship, washed your car, whatever.)
3)How long they've been playing in the league
4)Your name (can be anonymous)

Heavier weight will be given to nominations of players who have less than 3 seasons under their suspenders. Players can only be named once per season, and never more than one per team will be named per week. They don't have to be players, they could be folks involved in our league who go above and beyond the call of duty.

Example this week:

1) Brandon Rosser - #26 Stingers - in only his second season, and having only scored one career goal prior to Saturday, Brandon scored a hat trick. Where did that come from?!?!?

2) Ivana Galan - #5 Jaguars - The diminutive Ivana had an assist vs the Stingers this weekend, but earns this star for having the guts to fearlessly jump over the boards every Saturday and face off against guys who are twice as tall and weigh three times as much!

3) The ZuRoma's guys - These guys were up against HIGH expectations, because we had heard they were "about to open" a bar for the last 2 years. I don't know about you guys, but they have definitely exceeded my expecations. When was the last time you had service this fast at ANY restaurant? And the food is pretty good too.

Week 4 Results

Arlington Sens defeated the visiting Arc Angels 8-4 on Thursday Night.

I don't have a result for Bolts/Rangers on Thursday, can I get a little help?

Ice Gators narrowly avoided the shootout and beat the Arlington Capitals in overtime, 4-3. Capitals were working with a pretty short bench.

Stingers went off on the Jaguars 10-4. Things got spirited between the two teams at the end of the first period, and the enthusiasm carried through the handshake.

Keller Indians outshot the Senators almost 2:1 and won the game 8-3.

Mid-Air Collision beat the Spider Monkeys in a tight 3-2 game with almost identical SOG.

In the final matchup of the evening Saturday, the Dallas Lady Stars kept the Silver Bullets defense pretty busy. Final score was 7-4, with one of the 4 Bullets' goals scored by a Stars player trying to wake up her goalie, who was disappointed the game ended well past ZuRoma's last call.

Game Clock Instability Knows No Geographical Boundaries

Last night's Arc Angels/Arlington Sens game featured 15 minute periods.

The Arl. Bolts/Arl Rangers matchup featured 12 minutes periods.

Fascinating.

The Uniform Czar Speaks on the Parks teams

The Uniform Czar (nod to Junior "Spank Spank" Miller) has passed down this verdict after watching last night's games. For those unfamiliar with the Uniform Czar, his jurisdiction is complete and his judgement final in all areas related to team uniforms, aesthetic and otherwise.

The Uniform Czar has spoken.

"After seeing them for the first time, The Uniform Czar is
pleased with the uniforms of all three Parks based teams that played last night (Bolts, Rangers, Sens). Their design and quality is befitting of teams at the Bronze level of hockey. The colors were appropriate. Also interesting was the Parks house league logo printed on the shoulder of all three teams' uniforms, which adds a flavor of comradeship and unity among the Parks fellows.

Most impressive was the fact that every player of these three
teams was in their team's jersey.
The only non-conforming player among the Arlington teams was the Goalie of the Arlington Rangers, who was wearing a Patriots jersey, but the colors matched and so the Uniform Czar finds this acceptable, if not completely stable.

The Uniform Czar has no comment on the visiting Arc Angels, whose only consistency was a complete and perfect inconsistency."

Thursday Night Hockey 2/12/09

Come on out to the Parks Mall tonight, where you can ride the Merry Go Round and eat food court chinese as you take in two hockey games. Puck Drops at 8:15, good seats are still available.

8:15 pm - Arc Angels vs. Arlington Sens

9:45pm - Arlington Bolts vs. Arlington Rangers

We will go ahead and assume that our Arlington-based comrades are composed of actual, real, live individuals, even though there are no rosters posted on League Lineup for the Arlington Rangers or for the Arlington Bolts.

(The Arlington Sens do have a roster posted, and appear to have played at least one game, beating the Jaguars.)

Can I make it any easier for you?

Down at the AAC,  'Yotes goalie Ilya Bryzgalov (say that three times fast) had a lumber malfunction tonight, played with a borrowed player stick for what seemed like an eternity, and the Stars still couldn't get it past him.

Puck Drops on the Bronze League Blog

Welcome to the NRH i-League (Bronze League) Blog.

First off, I'd like to acknowledge that this blog owes it's inspiration to good old BlogCaptain's weekly missives, over at the original Tarrant County i-league blog, http://eulesshockeystop.blogspot.com/

Ever since a few of us defected over to NyTex from the Euless DPSC, the i-League experience hasn't been the same without a weekly recap of the games and standings providing some color.

We do have a new leaguelineup website that NyTex is running. The idea is that this blog will help supplement the leaguelineup site. http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?cmenuid=1&url=nytex_i_league&sid=141922673

I'd like to have feedback from all the teams, let me know what you'd like to see here in this blog, and I'll try to come by and introduce myself to the team coordinators, so we can get perspectives and news from all the different teams. I hope everyone is willing to participate, my role will just be to keep this thing out of the ditch.

Who am I? I'm Dickie Dunn, and I'm just tryin' to capture the spirit of the thing.
