According to the Brahmas web page yesterday, it's official. All of the rumors about the west rink being thawed and turned into a soccer arena have apparently been true. It's probably a good thing for NYTEX from a business persppective but fewer sheets of ice in our area causes a little concern for the sport in general.
Maybe it's an economy thing. If soccer players will pay about the same for the square footage and they don't have to run thhe ice plant, it makes sense. I also wonder if the powers that be forsee a decline ein new hockey players taking uup the sport because let's face it, not everyone will spend a thousand bucks on equipment to try a nnew sport at a time when everyone seems to be hanging on to their pennies pretty tight.
So will we now see shin pads, cleats, firecrackers, and throwing darts being sold at the pro shop?

Does this mean that Zuroma will start serving Margaritas and Tecates to wash down chips and salsa?
From a business standpoint, I guess it makes sense, but from a hockey standpoint it sucks. I remember last summer that west rink was dead all summer, so I guess its no big deal. As long as come fall time we pack the soccer players back in their el caminos and get the ice back.
Its great they found a use for the West rink during the summer. Maybe Zu's will add a mexican pizza to the menu. I truly hope we get the ice back in the fall. playing on sheet would limit the amount of open hockey, skills, and ice time for everyone. I really enjoyed the drop-ins. Lets make sure Hockey stays in the west rink this fall, I have seen some really good squirt and peewee games while enjoying dinner at Zu's.
